Insurance and fees
Cost should not be the reason you, your child or your teen go without support. Here are the plans I accept and how to check your coverage before we meet.
Plans I accept
Oregon Health Plan (OHP), through:
- CareOregon / Health Share of Oregon
- Trillium
- Yamhill CCO
- PacificSource Community Solutions
Commercial plans:
- Regence BlueCross BlueShield
- Providence
- Moda
Plans and networks change, so if yours is not listed, call anyway. I will tell you honestly whether I can see you in network.
OHP (Oregon Medicaid)
If you or your child have the Oregon Health Plan, look at the card for the name of your coordinated care organization (CCO). If it is one of the four above, I can usually see you in network. Tell me which one when you call, and I will check before the first session.
I do not take Medicare on its own. Some people with Medicare also have the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), and if you do, I may be able to see you through your OHP plan. Call me and I will check.
Who bills your insurance
I bill insurance through Forging Paths Counseling, the group practice I work with, so their name may appear on statements from your insurer. Your care is with me, at my office near Tigard.
How to check your coverage
Call the member services number on the back of your card and ask three questions:
- Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
- Is Susan Robens in network?
- Is there a copay, coinsurance or deductible for outpatient counseling?
If that sounds like too much, call me and we will work it out together.
Paying without insurance
You can also pay for sessions yourself. If you pay without insurance, you can ask for a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before your first session.
Out-of-network plans
If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, ask me about a superbill you can submit for reimbursement.
Frequently asked questions
Do you take OHP?
Yes, through CareOregon / Health Share of Oregon, Trillium, Yamhill CCO and PacificSource Community Solutions. Tell me which plan is on your card when you call, and I will check before we start.
Is play therapy covered by insurance?
Often, yes. Play therapy is usually billed as outpatient counseling for a child, which many plans cover when it is medically necessary. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so I check it with you before your child’s first session.
Is somatic trauma therapy covered?
Somatic trauma therapy is part of my counseling sessions, which are billed as outpatient counseling, so the same plans apply. I check your coverage with you before we start.
Are family or parent-only sessions covered?
Sometimes, when the sessions support your child’s treatment. It depends on the plan and the reason for the sessions, so ask me and I will check your coverage with you.
Is telehealth covered?
Many plans cover telehealth counseling. I confirm this with your plan before we begin.
Is the first phone call free?
Yes. The first brief phone consultation is free, with no obligation. We talk about what is going on and whether I am the right fit, and I answer your questions about cost.
Call 503-495-5072 or send a message, and I will help you check your coverage.
